8-Ball Divisions

A "Vegas" Qualifier After Every Session, and a "Captains" Vegas qualifier in March

The APL holds 4 Vegas qualifiers a year. The cash payout will be determined by the amount of teams in the tournament.  In the APL the players have a choice of going to Vegas and playing in the BCAPL National tournament or just taking the cash.  The APL designed our tournament this way to accommodate all players on a winning Vegas Qualifier team. Players should not be penalized for not being able to attend the National tournament.  Some cannot travel due to work schedule and some do not want to travel by air.  The winning teams are paid the prize money at the end of each tournament.

How do the teams qualify for these tournaments?

In the APL teams, depending on the size of the division, automatically qualify for the "Vegas" Qualifier after each session.  We also qualify the winner of the "Best of the Rest" for the Vegas Qualifier after each session.  The amount of teams that automatically qualify in each division depend on the size of the division.  Every division regardless of the size has a "Best of the Rest" playoff for all of the teams in a division that do not automatically qualify. The breakdown for team qualifications and trophy awards is below:

Division Size:

6-7 teams - 1st place and second place teams automatically qualify to play in the "Vegas" Qualifier held after each session. Also, the winner of the "Best of the Rest" playoff qualifies for the "Vegas qualifier". Bar and individual trophies for 1st place teams.

8-9 teams - 1st place, second place, and 3rd place teams automatically qualify to play in the "Vegas" Qualifier held after each session. Also, the winner of the "Best of the Rest" playoff qualifies for the "Vegas qualifier".  Bar and individual trophies for 1st place teams.

10-11 teams - 1st place, second place, 3rd place and 4th place teams automatically qualify to play in the "Vegas" Qualifier held after each session. Also, the winner of the "Best of the Rest" playoff qualifies for the "Vegas qualifier". Bar and individual trophies for 1st and 2nd place teams.

12-13 teams - 1st place, second place, 3rd place, 4th place, and 5th place teams automatically qualify to play in the "Vegas" Qualifier held after each session. Also, the winner of the "Best of the Rest" playoff qualifies for the "Vegas qualifier". Bar and individual trophies for 11st and 2nd place teams.

14 teams - 1st place, second place, 3rd place, 4th place, 5th place, and 6th place teams automatically qualify to play in the "Vegas" Qualifier held after each session. Also, the winner of the "Best of the Rest" playoff qualifies for the "Vegas qualifier". Bar and individual trophies for 1st and 2nd place teams.

 “Best of the Rest” Playoffs:

If your team does not automatically qualify your session is not over in the APL. All remaining teams in the division that did not place high enough to automatically qualify play in the “Best of the Rest” playoffs. The winner qualifies for the “End of Session” Vegas Qualifier.

Entry Fee:

There are no entry fees for our Vegas qualifier tournaments.  The weekly dues paid in every week go toward the prize fund and any entry fees associated with these tournaments.

“Captains” Vegas Qualifier:

Being a Captain is time consuming and hard work, this is the Amateur Pool League’s way of saying thank you for your dedication and all you have done. This is how it will work. All the Captains in their division will face each other in an 8-ball tournament playoff held in your local area. There is no entry fee to the captains to play in the "Captains" Vegas Qualifier tournament. The Captain that wins the division playoff will represent their division and play in the “Captains Vegas Qualifier” tournament (City Tournament for Captains) in February or March. The Captain that wins the Vegas Qualifier will receive $500.00 toward air fare, lodging and paid entry into the BCAPL 8-ball singles National Tournament in July at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
